Freshmen Entrepreneur: Katherine Buecheler
2 MIN READQ: Could you describe your company for us?
A: PACHD is an original brand that takes simple clothing and adds a patch to make it more unique. The main goal is to sell clothes that cannot be found anywhere else.
Q: What inspired you to start PACHD?
A: My dad was the one that really motivated me to start a business. He reminded me of when I was kindergarten, I drew pictures and sold them to my classmates. In 2nd grade I put beads in people’s hair for a dollar, and in 4th when I sold duct tape wallets. He made me believe that I had the skills to create something special and different.
Q: You were quite the entrepreneur! What is your favorite part about PACHD?
A: My favorite part about PACHD is the places it has brought me. For example, I took photoshoots at twin peaks, a place I have never gone. I took a photo shoot in Foothills [Park] at sunset. It’s helping me discover so many beautiful places.
Q: Where do you see your company going?
A: That’s kind of the whole mystery of this business. I am going to continue to work and improve PACHD everyday. With that, I’m hoping it will continue to grow as a company every day as well.
Q: What has the general response been?
A: So far, the general response has been very positive. There have been a number of unfamiliar faces that come up to me and tell me how much they love the clothing. I am so thankful to be surrounded by such supportive people.
Q: That’s great! What’s your production process like?
A: I recently got this special patch glue that is a lot more reliable than just iron-on. I do have a sewing machine that I will start to use on the t-shirts and sweatshirt once I get more comfortable with it.
Q: How did you make the website?
A: I made the website through Shopify. Because I am making this company alone, Shopify made the whole process a lot smoother.
Q: What do you think is the best part about PACHD?
A: I believe the best part of PACHD is how unique it is. We give customers the ability to choose the color of the product, where they want the patch to be and even what color they want the patch to be. We are also working on giving customers the option to buy and add the patches of their choice to a jean jacket.
Q: What does PACHD stand for?
A: PACHD, which is a spin off of the word “patched”, stands for Palo Alto Custom Handcrafted Designs.
Q: Do you have some tips for someone who might be interested in doing something similar?
A: For anyone who is thinking of starting up something similar, my advice would be to not let fear get in the way of doing what you want.
Q: Do you think you will ever open the website permanently or just in temporary launches?
A: Eventually I will open permanently, but for the next few months I will continue to just open in temporary launches.
