Top 3 Sunset Spots Nearby

Sunset viewing is one of the top activities to do in Palo Alto. There are a variety of places to enjoy the beautiful array of colors. Here are our top three spots ranked by comfort, accessibility, location, and the view itself!

Foothill Nature Preserve

Our rank: #1

Nestled in the East Bay hills, Foothill Nature Preserve offers a tranquil sunset scene. Meadows filled with diverse wildlife surround the drive up to the viewpoint. Foothill offers a unique sunset experience. Once at the top of the main road, you can enjoy the beauty of the sunset from the comfort of your car or on the benches along the side of the road.

Location: Los Alto Hills (Page Mill Road), Palo Alto

Accessibility: Easily accessible by car, the main viewpoint is along the big road.

Pearson-Arastradero Preserve

Our rank: #2

A hidden gem in the hills of Palo Alto, Pearson-Arastradero Preserve offers stunning sunsets over rolling hills. There is minimal light pollution here, offering a clear view of the sunset. Compared to the Foothills where you can just drive up, accessing the best viewing area is slightly more difficult. The front parking lot is a short 5-10 minute uphill walk to a spot with benches to view the sunset. Overall, Pearson-Arastradero Preserve is perfect for a quiet sunset experience, or an easy stroll at dusk!

Location: Arastradero Road, Palo Alto

Accessibility: Short drive off of Page Mill, quick walk to the top with a bench to sit on

The Great Spirit Path

Our rank: #3

With a view of the baylands along the winding trail, the Great Spirit Path reflects the colorful sunsets on its calm waters. It is a great place to walk around, take photos, and explore different hiking paths for a more rigorous experience. This area is definitely for those who want a more active sunset watch but is scenic nonetheless.

Location: Great Spirit Path, Menlo Park

Accessibility: A bit harder to get to than the other two spots, however, there are a variety of trails and areas to go for different sunset views.

Kayley Ko, Staff Writer
2023-2024 Staff Writer I joined C Mag because I really like how design based the magazine is, plus there are so many interesting aspects of student life like music, arts, and culture to write about. One of the things I love most about C Mag is the family-like community that the staff embodies. My favorite thing about journalism is how it's a combination of story telling, reporting, and design. In my free-time I like to dance, hang out with my friends, watch sunsets, and listen to music!
