Bluestone Lane Café in Los Altos brings an Australian-inspired twist to the Bay Area, offering a health-conscious menu in a modern setting. With a spacious and well-lit interior, it’s hard to not feel drawn to this chic, classy cafe.
We sampled a variety of their offerings — starting with the Brekkie Board, which presented a visually appealing selection of breakfast options. The well-plated avocado toast and yogurt parfait was beautiful to look at and wonderful to taste. The savory flavor of the avocado toast complimented the sweeter yogurt parfait.
The GF Banana Bread was a favorite. The banana bread was moist and subtly sweet, with the perfect amount of strawberries and blueberries sprinkled on top to balance add a sense of freshness to the dish.
However, although the BL Burrito (which was filled with eggs, avocado and other breakfast staples) was filling and satisfying, the wrap itself would have been improved if it had been crisper. This dish was not anything remarkable, and we felt that it was mediocre at best.
Despite this, the Verde Pulled Chicken Sandwich was a more successful choice and one of our favorites of the morning. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, and topped with fresh greens and a flavorful aioli that tied the whole dish together. Every bite was met with an explosion of flavor and a careful balance between the textures of crispy bread, mashed avocado, and shredded chicken.
Service at Bluestone Lane was friendly, if somewhat slow given the fast-paced nature of the café. Prices are a bit higher, as expected at an upscale café; although, there were some items that just didn’t have quite enough bold flavors to support the price.
Overall, Bluestone Lane Café is a great spot to come with friends for brunch and explore outside of Palo Alto. While some of the items were standouts, others were a little lacking in flavor. We mainly focused on sampling their food, and we hope to try some of their wide array of drinks in the future. Regardless, it’s a great choice for a person who likes fresh, simple ingredients and a casual atmosphere.
